First Annual Greek Spelling Bee at The Cathedral School Shines

This past week, The Cathedral School in Manhattan, in an effort to invoke students’ curiosity and interest in the Hellenic language, words, and their meanings, organized its first annual spelling bee and definition of words with the support of the Parents’ Association Greek secretary, Lilly Gerontis.

Students from grades first through fourth received awards of participation, and students in fifth through eighth grades competed for monetary awards from sponsor Atlantic Bank. First place winner Lambros Kledaras won $500, second place winner Olia Pritchard won $300 and third place winner Iliana Mihas won $200

The excitement was palpable as students cheered enthusiastically for one another throughout the event! Students’ genuine support for each other especially during the last gripping rounds while everyone sat on the edge of their seats, was heartwarming.
